Big Gay Cookout

As Pride month comes to an end, we want to have a big party with our community! We are excited to partner with our good friends at Riverwalk Brewing for a celebration of the volunteers, organizers, local businesses, allies, families, and community members who helped make another incredible Pride season possible.
There will be burgers and hotdogs on the grill, craft beer and frozen drinks, games and good company as we celebrate what makes our community special: connection, inclusion and the people who continue to show up for one another.
Bring a t-shirt and use the silkscreen provided by Tinkerhaus Community Makerspace to make yourself a one-of-a-kind Pride shirt commemorating our first annual Big Gay Cookout!
Pride + Joy LGBTQ+ Art Exhibit
June 8 - 27 at The Chalk Gallery
3 Harris St, Newburyport
The Chalk Gallery presents the work of over a dozen LGBTQ+ artists to celebrate Pride through art that reflects identity, resilience, joy, and imagination. A featured artist, Newburyport local Wes Davies, presents “Ugly”, a stunning and moving exhibit of ceramic sculptures. Don’t miss your chance to see this show on its last day, Saturday June 27 from 11 am - 3 pm.

Official Newburyport Pride Kickoff Party
Thursday, June 4 at Sunset Club

The Queen of Newburyport Pride Madam Zapple will host this joyous get-together at one of the iconic locations in Newburyport. DJ PJ will be spinning Pride tunes, the premier Boston Barbie Shakaren will return, and you know the food and drinks will be fire. Come out, come out, and kick off the weekend of queer joy with Newburyport Pride board members, sponsors, LGBTQ+ community, allies, and friends.
Progress Pride Flag Raising
Friday, June 5 at Newburyport City Hall

We partner with the City of Newburyport to bring you this event that marks the official start to Pride in Newburyport. The mayor’s proclamation, poetry from Newburyport’s youth, keynote speaker Mason Dunn (LGBTQ+ rights educator and advocate), and a rousing call to action from Madam Zapple.
Broadway Bash Youth Event
Friday, June 5 at Steeple Hall at Mission Oak Grill

Join Newburyport Youth Services for an epic night filled with show-stopping performances and a chance to celebrate everything Broadway has to offer. This in-person event promises great vibes, amazing talent, and a whole lot of fun. Grab your friends and dive into the magic of theater like never before. Don’t miss out on the party that’s all about music, drama, and non-stop excitement! This event is free and open to all youth within the designated age group. Newburyport Pride Parade
Saturday, June 6 in downtown Newburyport

Hundreds of people will take to the streets of downtown Newburyport to show their PRIDE! Whether you are marching in the parade or cheering us on from the sidewalk, do not miss this signature event featuring performers, community groups, and more!
Check-in for parade participants begins at 11 am at the Courthouse at Bartlett Mall (145 High St). The parade kicks off at noon. St. Paul’s Church (166 High St) welcomes all participants to a brief service of Pride prayer and parade blessing at 10.30 am.

Newburyport Pride Festival
Saturday, June 6 at Waterfront Park

This year the festival will take place at the scenic Newburyport Waterfront Park! The festival will feature live music from the legendary singer songwriter Catie Curtis whose new 30th anniversary album Come On Butterfly is coming soon and the indie folk duo Sweet Petunia, who just returned from supporting Ani DiFranco on tour and released their first album Foggy Mountain Mental Breakdown on Righteous Babe Records.
Queen of Newburyport Pride Madam Zapple will emcee and DJ Cedar will spin Pride tunes to keep everyone dancing. Vendors, food trucks, and nonprofit resources return to make this festival a true community celebration.
Newburyport Pride Documentary Film Night
Sunday, June 7 at the Screening Room

We are partnering with the Newburyport Documentary Film Festival for a special screening of THE DADS (feature) by Luchina Fisher and LIVING IN PRYDE (short), a production of GBH News.
Executive produced by NBA Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade, THE DADS was inspired by the Emmy Award-winning short film of the same name. It follows several fathers from across the nation who are building community in support of their transgender and gender-fluid children. (72 minutes). This will be followed by LIVING IN PRYDE which tells the story of New England’s first LGBTQ-welcoming affordable housing community in Hyde Park, MA. (37 minutes). Luchina Fisher, the filmmaker of THE DADS and members of the GBH News team for LIVING IN PRYDE will be in attendance for a Q&A following the screening of both films.

Newburyport Pride Window Display Contest
June 2-7 throughout downtown Newburyport
Throughout Newburyport Pride weekend, residents and visitors alike are invited to peruse the nearly two dozen window displays and vote for their favorite! Look for the Newburyport Pride Window Display Contest flyer in store windows and use the QR code to access the online ballot.

Sweet Paws Rescue Pride Pawrty

Join Sweet Paws Rescue for yet ANOTHER great Pride Pawrty! What is a Pride Pawrty you ask? There will be a mutt strut parade, an agility course, a photo booth, music, dog treats, Sweet Paws and Newburyport Pride merch, and activities for kids. Bring your dogs and dress them up in their Pride best!
